Thursday Night Mid-week Game!

We had a great turn out last night for our first Thursday night mid-week game! Over 20 people showed up to play and spectate! The games were great! Best play of the night:

Here's the situation: Team 1 is at home and the snakeside back can. Team 2 is in the snake 50 and Team 1's carwash. Team 2 is completely out of paint, but Team 1 doesn't know and stay in their bunkers. The T2 snake player leaves his gun behind, backs up and starts throwing paintballs that he's found on the ground at T1 Home. T2 carwash starts conserving shots and keeps T1 back-can occupied. T1 back-can pushes up to the 20 can, at the same time, T2 snake leaves the snake and sneaks up to T1 40 can. T1 still think the snake is hot and focus their attention there. T1 snake player has a handful of paintballs and sneaks up to the T1 30 can. T2 carwash takes a few shots at T1 20 can player and T2 snake player makes his move. He sneaks up and bunkers the T1 20 can by throwing paint at him, breaking paint on his loader. T1 home shoots T2 snake player and then goes to bunker T2 Carwash but misses and gets shot out by the T2 carwash player. T2 wins!

(ok, so the paint throwing wasn't technically legal in ANY league, but this wasn't PSP, NPPL, or any other league. This was just plain good old fun at the Provo Pick-up field!)

MVP of the night: Braydon, the T2 snake player!

SPPL owner steps down!

The SPPL is under new ownership as of March 7th, 2010. Billy Smith of Low Country Paintball has acquired the league from founder Jayson Nielson.

Regarding the acquisition, Jayson Neilson said “The SPPL is the premier Woodsball League in the world. There are many imitators but they will never be able to match the sportsmanship, fair play, and overall fun and simplicity of our 3 flag format. With events in five different countries and fields all across the US requesting local SPPL affiliates it is critical that my replacement not only be qualified to continue on with my vision but to grow that vision and take the SPPL to new heights.”

He went on to add “It is my opinion that there is no other person in the paintball industry more qualified to take over the SPPL than Billy Smith. Over the past six years that I’ve had the privilege to know and work with him, I have become a huge fan. He is one of the few individuals in this industry that really ‘gets’ the players. He works tirelessly to provide them with the best venues and experiences possible.

If you’ve ever had the opportunity to attend any of his events or meet him, then you know what I’m talking about. He is truly an amazing asset to the SPPL and the players should be excited for what’s next. Not only will he be able continue my vision for the SPPL, he’ll be able to add to it in so many more ways than I have ever been able to do.”

The 2010 season will continue with the same rules, venues and events that Mr. Nielson has scheduled. Mr. Smith will be at the SoCal event scheduled for March 27th-28th at Camp Pendelton near San Diego, California.
